Synopsis

Hong Fei was once a promising soldier. Now his cultivation is crippled, and he limps toward his last hope.

After years fighting the empire’s enemies, Hong Fei’s body and spirit are shattered. His only chance lies with Duke Yu, an old family ally now living in exile. All he seeks is a quiet position in the noble’s household, a place to fade into obscurity with dignity.

Song of the Gift Giver (abbreviation: Song) is a mild litrpg set in a magic school setting. It’s planned to be 8 books in total. Current release schedule is “whatever I can manage”. I’m not committing to anything because right now I’m writing 7-8 full length chapters a week. Patreon is at least 7 chapters ahead, and I hope to get it to 20 ahead.

I’m asked this a lot - it’s not a M/M story. There will be romance of a sort. Nothing explicit. The story is on the darker end of the scale

A main character that is forced to explore a very narrow path of magic due to a permanent condition.

A main character that is growing but won't become the strongest around anytime soon.

A story following a single main character but with introduction or theme setting scenes without the main character.

What Not to Expect:

Edgy grimdark characters – I will never write a sexual violence scene or gory descriptions of torture. I hate reading it and I would hate writing it even more.

Romance – romantic relationships will never be the focus of the story and only appear in the background. The main character is preoccupied with other stuff. Other forms of relationships (family, friends, companions) play a bigger role.

- A System that has been established for a long, long time (“There's nothing new in the Nexus!”) and which is crucial for the very functioning of society itself.

- Support characters that will have unique classes/paths, as well as their own growth, motivations and storylines, and who will always remain relevant to the story (there will be different POVs, but MC’s POV is 95% of the story).

- Slow burn and earned power! Nothing is given, there are no handouts, and no shortcuts!

- If you enjoy Star Wars, Final Fantasy, Tower of God, One Piece and others like this, you might like this story too!

- Arc 1 is a Tower Climber through a vast, ancient, uncaring and cruel machine world. Our characters are flawed, and at times dumb, annoying and make poor decisions! But they learn and grow, and by the end of Arc 1, they’ve got themselves mostly put together, and have forged unbreakable bonds!

- Arc 2 is after the Climb, and after the craziness and everything that the party endured in Arc 1, this is their chance to catch a bit of a breather, and learn more of the outside world. But there are secrets in the dark, things in motion our party does not yet suspect, and their break will not last forever...

- Arc 3 arrives like a storm after the end of Arc 2 and is currently releasing! Big changes are coming for Nar and the party as they are thrust into their first long delve. There is no doubt that this will be a perilous delve, but the greatest danger might just come from those to whom you extend a helping hand to... And who knows what secrets lie forgotten in the sweltering jungle?

Today wasn’t one of Fritz’s best days, in fact, he would’ve rated it as one of his worst. Mainly because he'd been beaten, kidnapped, stuffed in a cell with a slew of other captives then forced to climb a particularly malevolent Spire. It is said that with great risks come great rewards and that goes triply so for the Spires. Fritz is determined to make the best of the worst, climbing to the very top. If he can.

The Spires have stood tall for thousands of years as cities, kingdoms and empires rise and fall around them. Inside the Spires are Treasures, Monsters and most importantly, Powers. Every floor conquered within gives a choice of magical Abilities or Attributes that, when built up and chosen well, could raise even a street urchin to a king or even beyond.

Which is lucky for our hero, because he, his best friend and his crew are urchins; or thieves to be more precise, caught in a deadly peril, climb or die.

What to expect.

MC is not OP and is not a loner.

Fighting in ‘Climber’ teams with the occasional solo battles.

The crew will start off as inexperienced Climbers and will make mistakes, but they will learn. Weak to strong.

A System granted and empowered by the Spires, based on chance, choice and actions. You’ve got to Climb Spires to get strong.

Gaining Abilities and Aligning Attributes will be meaningful.
