A Requiem for Black Lilies
Should a heart bleed for one with fangs to suck it dry?
This is the story of a boy that believed humanity could exist beyond the veil of death: A youth who bore his soul to a pair of prisoners that his fellows called monsters. Seeking to help them on their path toward creating a nation of their own, a home for vampires, he chose to free them before they would have been executed – – only to lose his life in the process.
Or so it appeared.
Many years later, he was given a second chance in the world he helped to create, even if that world bore little resemblance to what he might have wished for. He, too, awoke changed, turned into a vampire — and also, a girl.
Now reborn, Amaryllis struggles to find their place in a society of beings entirely unfamiliar, their past known only to the one who saved their life: The crimson-eyed maiden who matured into the ‘Lugnosia,’ ruler of the continent-spanning nation of Somnaries. And perhaps also, their new mother…?
A Requiem for Black Lilies is a quirky rags to riches, quasi isekai tale about found family, as well as the interplay of desire and morality, identity and transformation. Transexuality plays a pivotal role in the narrative, and the conveyance of this JRPG fantasy-esque universe eschews the thrills of combat and adventure for a more intimate look at the feelings of the characters and the realities of a nation built to sustain vampires.
This story has no set update schedule, but tends to average one new chapter every 1.5 weeks. It was heavily inspired by another story with similar themes, ‘Vampire and the Dayspring Star’ by Matoi (RoyalRoad). It is not explicitly related to that story in terms of its world, characters, creator, or otherwise.
