Synopsis

Coming off the end of the first multi-planet war in their arm of the milky way, the Inner Dolcir Coalition has barely come out alive thanks to a single planet they had found in the nick of time: Earth.

Rhidi, a Kafya and a member of the race that currently dominates the IDC, was a part of a specialized force and saw action during the tail end of the war. With the war over and her mother keen to see her married off and having babies, Rhidi quickly signs up to take part in a joint military training program. This program, more of a statement to the Humans that the members of the IDC are just as equal, turns out to be far more than Rhidi had bargained for, not only in challenge… but in the freedom she has always wanted.

Is this slice of life and military wartime story, written by a United States Army Veteran, Rhidi will come face to face with a military that wears no gloves and seeks redemption for their failures during the Ur War, bounding across the stars to put lead and blade into those deemed hostile.

The Best Defense is a science fiction web serial in the HFY subgenre -- a story niche that, first and foremost, describes humans being awesome because they are human. You can expect:

- Multiple POVs, including humans, aliens, and AI characters.

- Significant near-future space exploration concepts.

- A dash of real physics next to the ray guns and snarky AI, and a greater scale than what is normally seen in sci-fi.

Hello there, Author here. Here's what you need to know to see if Hyperion Evergrowing is for you!

This book is a monster evolution story, and that will never change, but the initial goals of our protagonist revolve around him trying to reconnect with his humanity. Things change over time, but a lot of the first book explores what its like to be forcibly altered against your will, and the consequences of that change on a very personal, and somewhat depressing way. This obviously isn't for everyone, and there's a lot of fair criticism directed at the story, but I think the narrative goes in interesting and unique places because of it.

Hyperion is less power fantasy / wish self-fulfilment than some other series, but that doesn't mean Leif is weak in anyway. It turns out there are several advantages to the protagonist's situation, and while they don't instantly turn him into a god of war capable of defeating anything with his eyes closed, Leif does grow into a force to be reckoned with.

The story has a heaping of animal companions, some light kingdom building, heavy world building, and lots of character development for both the MC and a host of side characters.

Oh, there's also a subplot about the origin of the system itself.
