Synopsis

Basil Bohen was asleep when the System arrived and the world changed…

Dungeons suddenly popped up across the planet, summoning invaders and monsters from alternate realities. Ancient gods slumbering beneath the Earth were woken. And all humans were empowered with Levels and Classes gained by, amongst other things, killing monsters and other humans.

Only a single instruction was provided by the System: “Whoever reaches Level 100 first shall become Earth’s new Overgod.”

So initiated a worldwide battle royale of epic proportions… which Basil would rather sit out. Choosing the [Tamer] profession which allows him to speak with his cat, Plato, and other apocalyptic monsters, he’ll adopt and train them to fight alongside him and defend his corner of the countryside.

After all, why bother fighting the apocalypse when you can tame it?

Rania the elf keeps emphasizing how perfectly ordinary she is, knows nothing about how society works, and seems to base half her actions on what would look the coolest in a book. She is probably just eccentric, the others reason. Perfectly ordinary behavior for a shaman. Those are always a little off.

This story contains:

- Adventure!
- Comedy
- Multiple protagonists, with switching viewpoints
- Protagonists who are competent through skill and preparation
- A title character who is definitely Perfectly Normal, and anyone who claims otherwise is delusional
- Metafiction: There is a God of Stories who is messing with the characters
- A fantasy setting based on Dungeons and Dragons, but with many unique twists: Necromancy is widely used for manual labor, Paladins work as mercenaries for whichever god pays the most, and the goddess of entropy doesn't care about killing because everyone dies eventually anyway

Writing Style Warning:

Some chapters are heavy on exposition that is done in an unconventional way. I spend time explaining why all the bizarre things happening are actually perfectly logical. Some people love that, while others hate it. The same chapter had these two reviews: "I just found myself skipping most of the chapter because it was a boring info-dump" and "This is the most interesting explanation for a fantasy setting I have ever read and the way [the character] rambles about it really fits the theme you were going for".

Content Warnings:

- One of the characters is a shapeshifter, which includes changing their sex. She is normally female and in an open relationship with a woman, but not always. Social norms regarding these kinds of things are much more accepting than in real life due to the existence of magic and for historical reasons.
- Panic Attacks. Only one scene and it's comedic, but someone who suffers from this in real life might get triggered.
- Arachnophobia. This content warning is not about spiders, but about Arachnophobia, which is a type of Xenophobia, and therefore speciesism. It's making Rania very sad, because people are racially prejudiced against her cute pet spider.
