Queen of Swords
Derrick Johansen had been preparing to buckle down for the afternoon with a nice enjoyable game Crusader Kings II. Never in his wildest dreams had he been expecting to end up in the place of the ruler he had chosen when he started the game.
Theoretically, this wouldn’t be too bad, trading modern amenities for the life of royalty/nobility.
Of course, that’s if he had picked someone with immense power like the Kaiser of the Holy Roman Empire, or some random count in a stable part of Europe for a simpler life.
Of course though, he had to have gone and chosen young Queen Isabella II of the Kingdom of Jerusalem, right at the tail end of the Fifth Crusade when she was only eight years old. All because he thought it’d have been an ‘interesting and fun challenge’ to try and subvert her fate in history.
Now he has to do it for real and reality is far different from the games. If he doesn’t want to end up as the historical footnote she ended up becoming, he’ll need to weave his way through a world seemingly set to prevent the rise of someone exactly like Isabella.
How hard could it be?
