Synopsis

In a world of Dungeons and High Spirits, when the Archmage Calamvor dies, creating an artificial Dungeon Core, he sets off a series of events that even the godly High Spirits couldn’t have predicted. His creation, stolen from him by the most unlikely of creatures, will go on to save the world. One tiny piece at a time. After all, it is the tiniest Dungeon Core in the world. This will probably take a while.

Come follow the adventures of a Dungeon Core so small it boggles the mind. Its creatures are perhaps not the fiercest, at least at first, or the most challenging opponents to someone as large as a human, but at least they are loyal. That loyalty is tested as dangerous foes come for the Core and the Aether it possesses. The High Spirits have their own agendas for the little Core, and a darkness stirs in the North. Tiny though it is, the Dungeon Core will need every advantage, no matter how small, to protect itself from the machinations of Spirits, Fae, and Fallen.

Hey there, Author here. I’ve been wanting to write a story like this for a while, set on the small side where the tall folk tend not to look. My ideas have been inspired by several authors over the years, from Brian Jacques and his Redwall Series, to more contemporary Dungeon Core novels on Royal Road like Dungeon Without a System, Island Core, and Dragonheart Core. Movies have inspired me as well, with Epic, The Secret World of Arrietty, Stuart Little, and The Secret of NIMH being just a few. I hope you enjoy this story.

Mind the psychological tag. We spend a lot of time in the main character's thoughts.

When Caden dies, in an accidental fall, he is merged with a dungeon core in another world. He's not particularly happy to be dead, so resurrection in any form isn't too bad. The real problem? The dungeon core wasn't dead, and he has to share mind-space with it.

And that doesn't take into account mastering his new abilities well enough to escape from the powerful wizard that is, understandably, leery about allowing a dungeon to escape.

And, even when he manages to escape he needs to found and manage a dungeon.

Of course, the location he chose might have a few issues of its own:

-It's on the border of two human nations, who are not particularly pleased to share.

-A sentient plant race claims the dungeon as sacred ground.

-And, amidst the chaos, teams of adventurers just want to make a living and figure out how to deal with the latest challenge.

And, as its own challenge, Caden doesn't want to lose his humanity, to merely become another murder-hobo dungeon.

Additional tags for gore, language, and sexual content added just in case. Note that the slavery tag applies, sort-of. Not really traditional slavery, just some aspects of the system can override free will.

This is a reworking, and continuation, of my original novel into first person. And it is going great! The writing is well past where my original novel got to.
